03 Jan 2017 Year in Review
It’s the end of the year and a time for us to reflect back on 2017. Here at Baggett McCall, we cherish all of the memories that we have made here in Lake Charles and beyond. As we approach the New Year, let’s take a look back at the milestones of 2017.
2017 Best Lawyers
2017 started off with a bang for Baggett McCall as three of its partners were selected to be included in the 2017 edition of the Best Lawyers in America: one of the oldest and most respected peer-review publication in the legal profession. Baggett McCall was truly honored to receive this recognition.
- Wells T. Watson was recognized in the area of Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs
- Roger G. Burgess was recognized in the areas of Admiralty and Maritime Law, Personal Injury LItigation-Plaintiffs, and Product Liability Litigation-Plaintiffs.
- William B. Baggett Jr. was recognized in the areas of Admiralty and Maritime Law and Personal Injury Litigation-Plaintiffs.
Zita M. Andrus has worked tirelessly to represent clients who have been wrongfully injured from slip and fall incidents all the way to gross corporate negligence. This year, Zita Andrus had the honor of teaching at LSU Laws Annual Trial Advocacy Program. Here she is pictured with her former LSU Law Classmates, fellow teachers, and Judge Guy Holdridge of the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
At Baggett McCall, we are all one big family and with another year, we celebrated another 39th birthday for Roger Burgess.
All of North America was treated by the spectacle in the sky this year: the solar eclipse. We didn’t want to miss such an exciting time in history to witness this marvel, so we came prepared with eclipse glasses and witnessed it first hand.
Baggett McCall knows how important the enrichment and education of our youth is. Pictured here is Injury Attorney Kilburn Landry helping this young man work towards earning his law merit badge
Just look at that smile! Baggett McCall associate attorney Jake Buford and his wife Hope welcomed the arrival of their new daughter Laney Kit Buford on September 7th, 2017.

Did you know that we make a mean gumbo too? Baggett McCall took first place in the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association’s OctoBARfest gumbo cook-off last weekend in downtown Lake Charles. The event was held by the Young Lawyer section of the Southwest Louisiana Bar Association to raise funds for Helping Hands, a charity that provides counseling and social services to the needy. Baggett McCall is proud to be first in the courthouse and gumbo.
We love to give back to our community. This Christmas season, we made one spirit bright in particular by gifting a $300 gift card to Alice Melanson Duhon.
As we all reflect on this past year, Baggett McCall would like to thank everyone for their continued support. We hope you all have a safe, happy, and healthy New Year. Thanks for such a wonderful 2017.
